Why GIF is bad for web animation
Published · 0:29
GIF uses an indexed palette of at most 256 colors and only all-or-nothing transparency, so gradients band and edges look jagged. It is also heavy: in a web.dev example, a 3.7 MB GIF became a 551 KB MP4 and a 341 KB WebM with the same content.
