Rive vs GIF vs WebM vs MP4: real file sizes (17 animations)
Published · 0:40
We measured one flat mascot's 17 animations (35.8 s) on October 25, 2026. GIF: 8.0 MB. Transparent WebM: 6.1 MB. MP4: 2.6 MB with no transparency. One Rive file: 40 KB. The catch: the Rive web runtime is about 373 KB (brotli) once per site, so for a single simple loop video can be just as small. For a mascot with many states, Rive wins by far.
