How to Animate a Logo: Canva, Adobe Express, After Effects, AI Video and Rigging Compared
By the Charmotion team · Updated

There are five ways to animate a logo: template presets (Canva, Adobe Express), vector motion tools (Jitter, LottieFiles, After Effects), generative AI video (Kling, Runway, Gemini), image rigging that keeps your logo exact (MorphLogo, Charmotion), or hiring a motion designer. The best one depends on whether the logo must stay identical and which files you need.
Key takeaways
- Canva and Adobe Express are free to start and fine for preset motion on social posts.
- After Effects is still the tool for kinetic typography, custom reveals and sound-led stings.
- Generative AI video gives cinematic light and camera moves, but redraws the logo, so it can change.
- Vector tools need an SVG or design file; raster, 3D or AI-generated logos fit image-based rigging better.
- Check transparency and file formats before choosing: several popular tools export only MP4 and GIF.

What are the ways to animate a logo?
Disclosure: Charmotion is our product. It appears in the table with the same columns as everything else, and the last section lists when it is the wrong choice. Every other fact links to its source.
Group the options by the job, not by brand:
| Approach | Examples | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Template presets | Canva, Adobe Express, Renderforest | Quick social posts and intros, no skills needed |
| Vector motion tools | Jitter, LottieFiles (Lottie Creator), SVGator, After Effects | Custom motion, letter-by-letter animation, Lottie for web and apps |
| Generative AI video | Kling, Runway, Gemini | Cinematic light, particles and camera moves |
| Image rigging | MorphLogo, Charmotion | Animating an existing PNG, 3D or gradient logo without changing it |
| Hiring | Freelancers, studios | Brand launches, sound design, bespoke reveals |
Prices for hiring are in the logo animation cost guide.
Which logo animation tools keep your logo unchanged and export transparency?
Checked against each vendor's own help and pricing pages on October 25, 2026. "Not documented" means we could not find it on an official page, not that it is impossible. Prices are in US dollars where the vendor showed them; several pricing pages showed only local currency to us, so those cells say "see pricing page."

What is the best logo animation software for each job?
There is no single best tool, because the jobs are different. Match the tool to what you are making:
| You need | Good fits |
|---|---|
| A free animated logo for a social post | Canva or Adobe Express presets |
| Letters that write on, drop in or morph | After Effects, Jitter, or a motion designer |
| A Lottie file for a website or app | LottieFiles, Jitter, or After Effects with a Lottie plugin |
| A cinematic launch clip with light and particles | Kling, Runway or Gemini, checked frame by frame |
| An existing PNG, 3D or AI-generated logo animated without changes | MorphLogo for video styles; Charmotion for app, web and video states |
| A transparent overlay for video editors | After Effects, Jitter (paid), MorphLogo (paid), Charmotion (paid plans) |
| A full brand launch with sound and revisions | A freelancer or studio |
Can you animate a logo in Canva or Adobe Express?
Yes, with presets. In Adobe Express you "open your logo in the Adobe Express editor, then select the Animation feature," and Canva lets you apply animations to any element, then download the design as MP4 or GIF. Both are free to start and quick.
Three limits to know:
- Presets move the logo as a whole (fade, rise, pop, wipe). To animate parts separately, you have to rebuild the logo from separate elements first.
- Transparency is limited. Canva's transparent download covers PNG, SVG and GIF on paid plans, not MP4. Adobe Express says transparent backgrounds "aren't supported in GIF exports."
- Files are for posting, not for apps: no Rive, no Lottie, no state machines.
For a social post or a quick intro, that is often all you need.
How can you animate a logo without After Effects?
Pick by the file you have:
- You have an SVG or a Figma file: Jitter and LottieFiles' Lottie Creator are browser-based and export Lottie and video. SVGator animates SVGs too, and notes that "the SVG file you upload must be static and free of any animation attributes."
- You only have a PNG or JPG: template tools place it in presets; image-based rigging tools (MorphLogo, Charmotion) animate the image itself; generative video makes a cinematic clip but may alter the logo.
- You want app or web states: the Rive editor builds interactive state machines from vector or image assets, and some services deliver ready-made Rive files.
After Effects remains the most flexible, but it is a subscription with no free tier, only a 7-day trial, and it takes real practice. For a raster logo, the most common mistake is tracing it to vector and losing its shading; see animating a logo from a PNG.
When is After Effects or a motion designer the right choice?
When the motion is about the letters, the story or the sound:
- Kinetic typography. After Effects' text animators and selectors change properties of single characters or ranges of characters, which is how letters type on, cascade or flip one at a time.
- Bespoke reveals. A logo assembled from shapes, drawn on as a line, or built from particles tied to the brand story.
- Sound-led stings where the motion is timed to a designed audio hit.
- 3D. A full turn of a logo, extrusion and lighting need 3D tools.
Tools and services cover the common cases faster and cheaper. A designer is worth it when the animation is a brand moment people will see thousands of times, such as a TV ident, a film opener or a product launch.
When is Charmotion the wrong choice for logo animation?
Often. It does two jobs: a character set moves your existing logo image (squash, stretch, tilt, hop, blinks if it has eyes, a launch intro, idle loops and reactions), and a logo animation builds one launch intro or website hero from your logo. Both export files for apps, websites and video. Pick something else if you need any of these:
- Kinetic typography. A set moves a wordmark as a whole. A logo animation can bring letters in one by one, but morphing type and longer text sequences need After Effects, Jitter or a motion designer.
- Sound. No audio is included. Add a sound effect in your video editor, or pick a template that ships with music.
- Lottie, SVG or After Effects files. Exports are Rive, video and GIF. For Lottie, use LottieFiles, Jitter or After Effects with a vector logo.
- Particles or a full scene. Generative video and template tools do this; Charmotion animates your logo, not a scene around it.
- Free. Charmotion's free plan includes logo animation ideas, AI designs and a free preview, not finished animations. Other free options are the Canva, Adobe Express and Jitter free tiers.
Frequently asked questions
What is the easiest way to animate a logo for free?
Canva or Adobe Express: upload the logo, apply an animation preset and download an MP4 or GIF. Jitter's free plan also exports video, GIF and Lottie at 720p with a watermark. Free routes rarely include transparent video.
How do I animate a logo I designed in Figma?
Bring the design into a motion tool. Jitter imports Figma designs and exports video, GIF and Lottie. You can also export the logo as SVG and animate it in Lottie Creator or SVGator, or export a large PNG for image-based tools.
Which logo animation tool exports Rive files?
In this comparison, only the Rive editor itself and Charmotion's paid plans deliver .riv files. LottieFiles imports Rive files into Lottie Creator, and the other tools export video, GIF or Lottie.
